Nurse leadership is about understanding the needs of the profession and the goals of individuals and groups who want to ensure a voice for the profession into the future. The Emerging Nurse Leader Program, an initiative of The College of Nursing, aims to identify those nursing students with a passion for the profession and who have the ideas and capacity to inspire their peers. The leaders of tomorrow’s nurses are not necessarily the best academically, nor are they concerned only about industrial matters – they are people who understand what

has gone before them and want to build on that to ensure that nurses maintain the highest standards in the provision of health care and insist that their voice is heard in the development of health policy. The five successful candidates for this program will receive a package that includes membership of the College, access to a mentor, development opportunities and exposure to some of the best minds in the profession and across the wider business community.
